Yummy.. is what I think about this table now! I knew I would love it as soon as I saw it listed on CL… I was very excited that it was still available! However, when Hubby and I went to pick it up we did I see a small blemish on the top, but I knew if I couldn’t get it out I could paint the top so it was not a big deal. I love how long it is (69″ !!), so long in fact that there is a metal bar under the top that spans the length of the table for extra support. It also has these cool compartments that have doors on BOTH sides of the coffee table! I think it is oak, whatever wood it is it is SUPER heavy for a coffee table that’s for sure!! I’m going to use it in our basement, where the kids play video games, so the compartments are perfect for storing remotes, controllers, etc… Now all I need to do is continually remind them to put them away inside of it
!
Unfortunately the top blemish was beyond repair and the veneer parquet inlay top was just not evening out after I stripped and sanded it.. oh well on to plan B! So I broke out the ASCP in Graphite for the top, one coat only because I wanted the inlay to show through the paint. I sanded it to a very light coat and even all the way through in some places… waxed & buffed it.. I think it is seriously gorgeous!
I tried out a new paint for the base, CeCe Caldwell’s chalk & clay paint, the color is called Smoky Mountain Gray. I loved the color and it went on like a dream, smoother than the Annie Sloan chalk paint in my opinion. It also distressed very easily and stuck to the wood without any issues at all, my only “problem” was that I didn’t like the way the wax reacted to it when I went to wax it. The paint seemed to absorb the wax and it took a lot of wax to feel like I had it covered. I will use the paint again, but I may use another product to top coat it.
I normally would have removed the metal grates and hinges, but for this piece I wanted to paint them.. I love the way they turned out and depending on the piece will totally do it again!
What do you think? Have you tried CeCe Caldwell’s paint and had any waxing issues or is it just me ?
I love to read your comments so why not leave one?!

Hi I’m new to your blog, found you through Table Top Tuesday! I love this table and think it would have been the coffee table to go with some tables I found a few years ago at the thrift. Looking at your paint job, I hate I didn’t keep them. I so love the colors. I would love for you to link this project to my party: Frugal Treasures Tuesday @ http://beezrentaldesigns.blogspot.com

By the way, you can find the tables I referred to on my blog on the page, Old Projects. The first picture shows the wedge shaped table and the next to last picture you can see a bit of the end table. : )

I jsut tried Ce Ce Caldwell’s wax this week and fell in love with it! I found it to be really easy to put on… just wiped it on with a cloth rather than having to brush it on and wipe it off. (I did find that you should use a truly lint free cloth.) I also loved that there are no fumes from the wax as it doesn’t contain any solvents. I am curious too what other people’s experience has been with it. Mine was great!

I have a coffee table exactly like yours only mine has the original wood finish. Do you know roughly what they sell for? I want to get rid of it but can’t find anything about this specific table other than your post. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Crystal, I got mine for $60 and the top had a bad spot on it. I would hesitate to say how much you could get for yours but I was thrilled to get mine for $60 and I probably would have paid $100 for it knowing I was keeping it for myself. It is so long and unique that to the right person, like me ;), it would be perfect! So having said all of that I would list it for what you want to get for it, you can always come down in price if you need to… Good luck!
