Hey Good Lookin’

Well the shape of this console is good looking, but nothing else about the finish is! However my next door neighbor wanted it for her foyer as it was a PERFECT fit and great decoration storage!

Below is my first attempt at painting this for her… she picked out the paint and color so what could possibly go wrong… right?

Well, I totally hated painting with this paint… not only did I have to prime it I had to paint 3 coats… chalk paint sure has spoiled me Smile

The final result was very clean, no distressing and gold highlights along the edges… a modern finish for this silhouette… I LOVED it… she obviously did not…

So here is attempt number two (and the last I might add)… It is now painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (mix of Emperor’s Silk & Barcelona Orange)… I distressed it VERY lightly, waxed and buffed… this is what she was looking for!

I did leave the gold accents on the table but muted them significantly with paint and steel wool. I think she is still questioning whether she likes the gold handles or not… but if not that is an easy spray paint fix…

The sheen and feel of this console is fabulous! The color is now much more red, with just a tiny hint of coral…

The piece itself has a great shape to it and is perfect for tight spaces because of its depth…

I hope she likes this color for many years to come… because I won’t want to repaint it any time soon… Sarcastic smile

I REALLY hate to repaint a piece I have already completed. I have rarely have a piece I have finished that I didn’t think turned out just the way I wanted it to… but that is the difference between painting something and selling it to someone who digs it and interpreting someone’s idea of what a piece should look like and finishing it to meet their expectations… I will admit that is the hardest part for me, but I love a good challenge!

Hope you’re digging my latest paint project!

Thanks for stopping by…

Until next time!

  1. Oh Wow – she’s just gorgeous and looks so perfect against the gray and white back drop.
You make me want to paint something red ( I never have – can you believe that – never once! )

  2. The piece looks beautiful and what a transformation! The red is gorgeous but I agree, the handles are so tiny, perhaps they aren’t the right size. Great job!

  3. What a difference! I love it. The gold accents totally make it. I have a dresser that I’ve been contemplating on for a quite a while as I didn’t know what to do with it, but I think you just inspired me…..a bold colour with some pretty gold trim! Thank you.

  4. beautiful,
can you tell me if chalk paint can be used on paneling? I want to give my paneled living room an old barn look. I am very rustic lol

  5. This piece is absolutely gorgeous. I’m loving the colour and am going to experiment with mixing those two colours myself right away. Thanks for posting the pics.
