Sometimes I never know how a piece will turn out until I start on it… ok, if I’m really being honest I frequently have no idea how it will turn out, but I love the process of finding out!
This was a beautiful chest of drawers, but it had drawer front veneer issues which didn’t allow me to just refinish the whole piece, I needed to paint it, trust me on this one…
BEFORE
It came with a mirror too!
Here it is a Lucketts! The top I sanded down and stained Dark Walnut. I also added a couple of coats of Watco Danish Oil in Dark Walnut to put moisture back into the surface. I finished it off with a coat of dark wax… it truly came out GORGEOUS!
See what I mean about the top? Look at that shine!
The cabinet I painted with a product I LOVE called Cabinet Coat, I painted my kitchen cabinets in it over 4 years ago and they’re still in great shape. My favorite paint store, Virginia Paint, carries it and tinted it for me in Stonington Gray. Yes, I know it may look white but it’s not… it’s just the lightest of gray… FYI the only “downside” to Cabinet Coat is that they can only tint it in light colors
I just have to show you a close up of the knobs… they are by far my favorite! I soaked them overnight in a solution of ammonia and water (4:1), brushed them with a soft bristle brush and rinsed them off. I think they are pewter… I’m a sucker for great hardware I know!
A soon-to-be Mom bought this chest at Lucketts, but she didn’t want the mirror because she was going to be using it as a changing table / dresser. So now I have the mirror left over if anyone needs one, it’s painted the same Stonington Gray, let me know if you are interested!
Thanks as always for stopping by!

Oh Susan this is gorgeous!
I’m working on a similar one – and I’ve added a mirror – I figured they could take the mirror for when it’s no longer a changing table ( most of my dressers go in nurseries for some reason )
Beautiful job!

What a beauty! I love the process too – at least most of the time. Never heard of that paint, but it sure sounds like a good find. And doesn’t it make you smile to think about having this piece in a new baby’s room! It may become a family heirloom!

Oh I love the fact it’s going in a baby’s room! You should try this paint, great if you’re not distressing, but works well with glazing or just by itself.

I love this! And I’m glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t know how something is going to turn out until it’s finished. I always think I’m supposed to have some great plan, but I rarely do. And rarely does something end up like I think it might…!

It is always a surprise in the end, and what a pleasant surprise this was, right? Lovely

Nice rehab, Susan! It’s great to hear that Cabinet Coat is good paint … because I ended up with a quart of it by mistake when I sent The Husband for trim paint. Now, I just have to wait till I have something to paint white.

Thanks Connie! You can get the paint tinted, just has to be a light color, it’s a fabulous paint!

I love the way your dresser turned out! I was wondering what kind of wax you used on the top? I dark waxed a coffee table after stripping and staining and it’s so streaky. So sad after all that work!

Thanks Bonna! I used Annie Sloan’s dark wax, but I also use Briwax. I have never had a streaking problem, that’s very weird… I wonder why?

Beautiful! Question: I bought a similar piece and the mirror shows “age spots” that I haven’t been able to get off. It looks like you got yours pretty new looking..any tips there?

Thanks Karen! My mirror has aging too, I leave it, it’s very nice looking and I am unaware that you can fix it unless you recoat the back of the mirror. Enjoy the imperfections 😉
