Oh yay, it’s the first of May! To help celebrate Spring I thought I’d share with you these chairs I just finished… When I first saw these balloon back rattan chairs I knew I wanted to try to update them, give them some perkiness or something!
BEFORE
First I spray primed them, then I sprayed them with Rustoleum’s Summer Squash in a Satin finish. It took almost 4 cans to spray these suckers! Here they are after a little spray paint love…
I love this fabric! I bought the fabric first and then found just the right yellow paint to coordinate with it!
I bought new foam and made the box cushion covers, with zippers too! It took me FOR-EV-ER to make these covers, but I got it done and I love them!
Even though I have these staged outdoors they are not outdoor chairs. They are VERY comfortable and I absolutely loved them setting in my blue and white sunroom… my Hubby doesn’t care for them though I’m guessing he doesn’t like yellow…
Hope you dig them as much as I do!
Thanks for stopping by!

I think they look fantastic! And kudos to you for making those cushions. I can do a lot of things, but sewing is not one of them. I’m impressed! 🙂

Thanks Jess! I can sew, but it’s brutal… If I did it more often I guess I would be better but who knows 😉

I have a chir just like these that I bought in Hawaii 37 years ago. It had rockers on it that slipped off on a regular basis no matter what we did to try to attach them permanently! I rocked both my babies in it and tipped over at least once with eah one. (nobody hurt)
I love the cushion. I just made two round box cushions for my daughter. Not sure I have the nerve to try one like you made. Chairs look great!

Ah ha! Why didn’t I think of that before? Pick your fabric first, THEN match the paint! They are very pretty chairs! That cheerful yellow is a huge color for this season – I see it everywhere! So just tell your husband that you are on trend. =0)

Does this paint require a clear top coat?

No, it is satin spray paint

Oh my goodness, I love these chairs! I found the exact same ones (in beat up rattan) on Craigslist, and googled for painting/refinishing ideas. These are fantastic! I’m thinking mine will go in a bedroom at the B&B I’m starting, where the bathroom has vintage 1950s yellow tile, with grey accents. I’ll paint mine the same yellow as you did, and try and find fabric with yellow and grey 😁💛 Thank you for the inspiration!!!

Thanks so much Kate, I’m glad you liked them. It’s weird but I often think of those chairs and regret not keeping them, but I have a weakness for chairs and currently have more that I need. These were so easy to refinish, I’m sure you will love yours!
