Repurposing An Old CD Tower

This is a “lovely” little pine CD tower I picked up recently… not that I think there is a market for CD towers… but I love the size and the fact it is solid wood is a plus! I was sure it could be a perfect organizer for the bathroom (or really any small space)…

BEFORE

I bought some new CeCe Caldwell paint colors over Christmas break and I was excited to try them out! This one is Carolina Sun Yellow…

Below is a picture of how this clay & chalk paint dries… very much like a clay mask you would put on your face… it looks kind of funky doesn’t it?

It took 2 coats to cover the piece the way I wanted it to and I just LOVE the bright, cheery yellow color!

I removed the back to make it easier to paint, it was just attached with long staples and was very easy to remove… I lightly distressed and waxed the rest of the tower while I had the back off.

I painted the back with “Storm” by Benjamin Moore (I had a sample pot on hand), it’s a very pretty warm grey color.

I added some silver label holders each of the cubbies…

I predrilled the holes and used very small screws to hold the tags in place.

I think the addition of the tags helps take away the CD tower feel and turns this piece into something a little more special…

I think this piece would be fabulous in a bathroom where there is usually limited space or sometimes a lot of people sharing it. A shelf for products for each person… it would be great for a dorm bathroom too!

Hope you like my little bit of Carolina Sunshine organizer!

Thanks for stopping by as always!

Until next time…

    1. I do like working with it, just not as much as the chalk paint.. But their wax looks and smells fabulous so I can’t wait to see if I like it better than AS’s… The paint behaves differently than I expect it to… Hard to describe! Can’t wait to see what you do with it!

  1. I turned an old holder on its side and put it on my computer desk and used it as a cubby shelf. I thought I was pretty smart, repurposing it and it took no time to fill it.

  2. I took our old CD tower, turned it sideways and it hangs across our garage workbench. It served its purpose at the time, but it is much better now. I love the yellow color and the labels on each shelf.
