Pieces and Parts

If you saw the custom table we built for the playroom then you may have been wondering what I did with the rest of the original sewing machine table… I only had the wooden cabinet for one of the bases, the other base had no cabinet when I bought it. We took the cabinet apart and I now have 2 projects I am working on using the parts of the cabinet. This is one of them…

This is what the original Singer sewing machine table looked like…

This is the tilt out drawer that was part of the original sewing cabinet…

BEFORE (sort of…)

I thought (among other things) that it would make a great vanity makeup holder!

I painted it with another new (to me) CeCe Caldwell’s paint… “Destin Gulf Green”. It looked very similar to Provence (ASCP) before I waxed it… but after the wax the green really showed through.

Look at the variations in the paint color, I’m pretty sure it’s the clay part of the paint that pulls this off… I waxed it with Annie Sloan Clear Wax, but once I am out of that I am going to try CeCe’s clear wax… that wax has almost no smell and what you do smell smells just like a candle!

I didn’t paint the inside of the drawer as I liked the contrast of the wood with the paint, but I did clean it really good with Orange Glow… man do I love that stuff! The size of the tray is the perfect fit along the side of a bathroom vanity top!

The little pockets would also be great for stationary, jewelry etc…

This was a super quick and easy project, but I am very happy that I am able to salvage so much of the original cabinet and repurpose it into items that are more likely to be used today…

Hope you like my little tray… what would you use it for?

Thanks for stopping by…

Until next time!

About Susan @ Uniquely Yours or Mine

Hi, my name is Susan and I’m a furniture hoarder… whew, now that I have said that I feel so much better! Anyway, I started this whole furniture refinishing and blogging business in 2011 and I have LOVED every minute of it! It’s not “easy” by any means but it allows me to utilize my creative side and meet lots of wonderful people… it is seriously my dream occupation! I have been refinishing furniture for myself for over 20 years but never gave any thought to doing this for others until my kids had gotten to the point that they didn’t need me as much… sad but true! So now I’m a stay at home mom and wife who has decided that fixing up and painting furniture is so much more rewarding than vacuuming and grocery shopping… my house is never quite as clean as I would like for it to be and there is furniture everywhere… but I couldn’t be happier! I hope you can come along on this journey with me!

  3. Great idea and I love the color contrast. I might use it to have a windowsill herb garden in my kitchen. You have kept it simple and made it real!
